What do the monograms really look like in real life???

Do you mean the "infinistitch" items like the performance jackets and polo shirts? There are a couple photos of examples on this page:

yes, infinistitch. I saw that page. I guess the thing that's throwing me off is the the white circle on a black shirt for instance. If I have a white image for example that I want to put there; would I just upload the white image with a transparent background? Or would I have to create the black background before uploading it?

Yeah, it's always a full circle of stitches, you need to give it a background color unless you want the background stitches white. (Do keep in mind that if you use a black background, it's still going to be a circle of black stitches, there's no way to eliminate the circle.)
Think of it like designing for the buttons-- you can actually just use the same image you make for buttons, the template fits the round infinistitch too . |

They work really well with bright contrasty backgrounds. This is the logo of an organization I support:
http://www.cafepress.com/friendshipvisit.280375931 I have several items with that logo and I have to say they come out very nice. I had also done some that had more pastel tones and that didn't work nearly so well. |
