Hello. I'm having a problem with some designs and how they display. They are white text designs for black and dark apparel. When the designs display in the marketplace or image basket, they are invisible because I can't get a background to stick. White text on a white background, you see.

I went into the image basket and selected a black background for the designs but as soon as I leave that screen the backgrounds stop applying to the design.

The designs appear perfectly on apparel if you mouse over what is being offered but if you are looking at the design itself in the marketplace all you see is a white square.

I've searched the old threads but haven't seen a solution. Does anyone have an idea?

I've had the same problem, but don't have an answer. Haven't had time to contact tech support. Items I've selected black bkgd. for months ago still show up white in marketplace too.

Here's the really odd part. In the image basket it says this:

"You have the option to choose black or white as the background color for which a design with transparency will appear against in your Image Basket and within the CafePress Marketplace. If you do not select a color the default setting is black."

So have they set the default to white instead of black?

2nd odd thing: I have other designs just like this that were uploaded months ago. They display just fine, with the black background. I even used the same Gimp template to create these new designs. I wonder what's up?

I have the same problem with designs I uploaded in February (November designs from the same temple/file are OK).

I have emailed support 6-7 times since. They know there is a problem, they don't know when they will fix it and they apologize for the inconvenience.

Email them (Customer Service -> Email Us at bottom), let them know more people are experiencing a problem.

Thanks cdn_kin. I sent them an email this morning. I'll post their reply so we all know what's going on.

Ugh. This isn't good. The reply from customer service to my email follows:

quote:
Dear Mike,

I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. We are aware of this issue but do not have an estimated date of when the problem will be fixed. Thank you for your understanding.

I'm sure I'll sell quite a few designs when they are effectively invisible.

Same answer I got each time.

I tried using a new template; a different program; even used different operating systems (Mac, PC, Ubuntu). No luck, no change, no dice. I've given them the numbers of the artwork that works and artwork that does not work.

It's been six months, talking to 'support' is frustrating.

I've been either making designs for white products only or using coloured letters with a white outline for both light or dark products rather than white only letters.

I've chosen to pretend that the 'invisible' designs will draw mouseovers from people curious as to what's going on.

Another example of a general sloppiness and lack of caring that now seems to dominate cp.

For now, the workaround is to click the black screen option at the same time that you tag your image, when you first upload it. I usually have to click mine more than once to get it to "stick."

Thanks for the tip Lorelei. I uploaded two new white text designs last night and selected the black background immediately after the upload was complete. The background remained applied to the design so this work around is a winner.

And since one work around was successful, I've discovered another goofy thing. When a sale is made the donot email notification has a link to click on to view the item. When I click on that link I always get this message:

quote:
Oops!

We're Sorry! We've been busy housecleaning and the page you're looking for could not be found. It may have been renamed, moved, or deleted. Please check the URL for spelling, capitalization, and punctuation errors.

It's nothing big but it is one more thing that doesn't work. Get enough of them and people will wonder what CP is doing with all the money they picked from our pocket.

I always click on the black background when I tag the image. But recently it would not stick.

Next time I'll click a bunch of times...
