Also make sure you did not save as 8 bit/indexed color color or as grayscale, Those formats of png won't work
If you see a white background on the shirt it's going to print that way. |

Ok! I've been doing some experiments with the image I prepared for my T-Shirts and I think I've discovered the cause of the problem.
As far as I can determine the problem is that the transparency information is not being correctly saved in .png format. If I save the image in .psp format it works fine and I can load it and use it in Paint Shop Pro. But as soon as I save it in .png it converts the transparent background to white. Likewise, if I copy and paste the image onto a background in Paint Shop Pro then the transparent background remains see-through and image works as intended. I can copy and paste it into any background I like and the image is super-imposed over that background without a white background around it. However, if I try and paste it over an image in any other programme, such as Paint. The image background is treated as White and the image doesn't work as intended. This behaviour persists even after re-logging the PC, so the transparent background information is NOT being saved and correctly in .png format, but is being saved correctly on .psp but cannot be migrated to any other micrsoft application. So, that being the case I assume that what is happening is the when I upload the image to Cafe Press the same process is happening and the transparent background is being replaced with white. Either that or the image is being uploaded correctly but the process of copying it onto the T-Shirt image is causing it to be converted to white. Either way the end result is that all my images are appearing on their T-Shirts with a white background, and even if they wouldn't get printed with it, it becomes impossible to display an accurate image of the finished product with this issue in effect. Sounds very much like you saving it as an 8 bit png. 8 bit has the wrong format of transparency to work on shirts. Do you have both Photoshop and Paint shop (you mentioned them both in your posts) On Photoshop an easy way to do it is pick the right format is "save for web" and then make sure you pick the PNG 24 option not PNG 8. Otherwise which program are you using, name and version number, so someone who is using the same might be able to help you with the exact options. Or if your software is old, it might just not do full transparency. If that's the case you might want to check out one of the free programs in the stickied post on top of the graphics forum. Hope that helps |

I have Jasc Paint Shop Pro 8 (Version 8.10) and the standard Microsoft Paint programme which I find easier to use for simple tasks. Can't see a save for web option, but there may be another way of doing what you suggest. ++++ P.S. Ok! I've cracked it. There isn't a save for web option, but I did a help index search on PNG 24 and noticed there is a PNG Optimisation Tool which has a number of optional settings. Including a Transparency Optimisation setting which apparently defaults to 'No Transparency'. So, all I needed to do was change this to 'Existing Transparency Layer' and it now seems to work as intended. |
