Hi, I'm just wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice. I want to create a transparent image, but I don't own any of the programs with listed tutorials (Photoshop, etc.)

I looked at some of the free Graphics Software listed at the top of this forum. Does anyone know if any of those is mac compatible, easy to use, and can create a transparent image?

(It's just a simple graphic I want, so I was making it in Power Point! I know, that probably makes you techie artists cringe... ;-))

Gimp has a pretty good reputation in the non-mac world, so you could look at http://www.gimp.org/macintosh/ and see if it can help you out.

Hi JuliaK,

How simple? If you are creating it in PowerPoint then maybe you could use Inkscape instead. If you have set up your page and have the elements 'floating' then when it is exported (to PNG) the background is transparent.

If you are doing some image editing then Seashore is a simple program that handles alpha channels (transparency) and is based on GIMP. Export to PNG. It runs natively on the Mac, GIMP uses X11.

Both are free and work on a Mac.

David (cringing a bit)
