It looks like on the Men's custom polo, there is a white circle that denotes the area that you can place your image, at least on the dark colors. The question is this: Is that white area visible on the final output? I poked around the Cafepress site, and didn't see that addressed. When you click to review the final product, the white area is visible, so it seems to suggest that it is part of the final output.
This will determine if I need to use a transparent background or a black background. I checked the custom t-shirts out, and those don't use this white area for the front, so I thought I'd check before building myself a few different shirts, then discovering I botched something.
That item is part of the Infinistitch product line. Its a threaded patch that then has the colors bled into it. anything that would be transparent on a normal tshirt will end up with white thread in that area.
Ah ha! Thanks, that explains it then. CafePress should make a mention of that on the Infinistich page. The links to the "Designing for Dark Apparel obviously doesn't apply for Polo or other Infinistich products, then, which led to the initial confusion.
Now to just figure out how well a dark green looks on all black...
Bolt--I just want to be clear, does this mean the white circle will be transparent? for the life of me I do not want to spend the money and have friends buy these polos if they are going to be screwed up. I too want to make sure before posting and ordering these polos.
No, the white area is not transparent. It is filled with white thread. This is not "embroidery" It is a thread pattern which is dyed in place. It can do things standard embroidery cannot, and it can't do things standard embroidery can. When the entire round area is filled with color, especially bold colors the effect is very striking. It does not do well with low contrast images. Because it is a different kind of process the results can be brighter and more saturated than standard "direct print." Go to your Media basket and at the top is a link "Learn How to Design for Infinistich Embroidery." The effect is as if you ordered a round patch and then sewed it onto the pocket area.
