A photograph from my shop printed on a black t-shirt didn't print well. Half of the photograph printed white and the rest of it was in color. It was a color photograph. I then ordered another one to see if it just wasn't printed correctly and it too printed the same way. The right side of the color photograph was white and the left and center in color. I did contact customer service and was given no suggestions. I ordered a black t-shirt and mug with a drawing on it and they were great.
I understand the process for printing on black and white are different. Any suggestions for preparing a png file of a photograph to print well on black? Do i have to make it darker or brighter to compensate for the printing method? I haven't ordered a photograph on white yet to see if it prints well. Do photographs in general have to be prepared as darker or brighter then the actual photograph for white as well?

First, you can always contact CP directly in case the issue is on their end (equipment, for example). They'd want to know if their replacement was a failure, too.

Secondly, it's hard to answer your questions in the sense that it'd just be guessing. Seeing the master file is probably the best place to start - but I wouldn't recommend just putting it out there for others to access. Seeing the end-result on the shirt might help, too... it could hint at an equipment problem or image file problem. Your having ordered a replacement for yourself, however, with the same results might suggest it's an image file as identical problems usually don't happen in production on different days. That part is an interesting tidbit that slightly hints at an image problem.

Broadly, all of the things you ask could be issues toward making a better image. None of them necessarily account for what you describe happened to the shirt.

You mentioned you ordered a black shirt and a mug and they were great. It's hard to quantify if the drawing relates to the photograph... large image area, colors in use, beginning resolution, etc. etc. So, again, it's hard to answer.

Sometimes it's an equipment issue and CP needs to fix it. Sometimes it's on our end but without seeing the essentials like some representation of the photo image and the end-result - it'd just be guessing.

Yes, I've ordered dark garments with photos on them and they turned out okay. Nothing great like a photo on a paper product but acceptable and I felt I got my money's worth. I'm *pretty* sure they got to me looking like the artist intended (and definitely like the thumbnail showed) so I didn't see any issue requiring a replacement.

I did contact CP several times via email concerning the problem. They suggestd I order a replacement, so I did. I contacted them to tell them it also printed half white instead of full color as well. They gave no more advice, but refunded my money. I just wish they would look at what they print and when it obviously doesn't look like the file they might check into it. Or when someone exchanges many emails with them and orders a shirt twice and it still doesn't print in full color, they would check into the problem and offer some advice. I have put my shop on hold for a year, because i haven't been able to figure out why this photograph won't print. The drawing had nothing to do with the photograph. After a year I decided to give CP another try with a drawing and it worked. Both were the same size file produced with Photoshop on the same computer and scanned with the same scanner.
There isn't anything wrong with the photograph file as I have had other places print it and it prints fine. It does appear okay on their website.
