the problem i see with this list is that in each of those places, you're still competing with thousands, if not millions, or other people and sites. The question isn't what websites to use, the question is, how do you drive traffic to your site (and part of that being, how do you make those websites work for you).

for example, a blog isn't going to drive traffic to your site (or sales) if you're not driving traffic to your blog. So, do you spend time trying to get traffic to your blog or do you spend that time trying to get traffic to your site directly (which in my opinion would lead to more sales).

To me, the only thing on that list that initially matters is your first point...direct organic search results. the question then is, HOW do you do that...now THAT's the million dollar question.

So far, Google base has been the most effective way to get traffic directly to my website. No additional traffic-driving is needed; Just upload the feed and let the magic happen.

The same goes for MSN live.

I'd love to hear any other suggestions though, as I'm always looking for new not-so-high-maintenence ways to promote.

1 product above the fold is not enough!!!
Please put the Marketplace back the way it was!!!

Yeah, that's what everybody says...but I've got keyword-rich text all over my shop, on the top of every page, in every teaser section (well almost; I'd say 90% of them), and I pretty much just get hits from google base. I rarely see hits from actual search engine results, from any search engine.

do you have a link to your shop? maybe your keyword rich text needs improvement?

check out some discussions i've had with other shopkeepers here: http://burntees.com/Forum/viewforum.php?f=8&sid=cba6e7c...ecfd8cca0213211c890b

you're definitely making good use of the space provided, but i think your actual keywords need work (in my opinion). for example...you have a t shirt that says zen...but i barely see "zen t shirt" anywhere on the page. people are going to google and searching for the term Zen T Shirt...so you need to use that keyword on your page. Something like...this great Zen T shirt is great for blah blah blah...we have lots more Zen tees and other Buddhist apparel blah blah blah. now in once sentence you have "zen t shirt", "zen tees" and "buddhist apparel"...all keywords that people will actually use in google.

does that kind of make sense?

i see people do that a lot...using the keywords in a sentence but not putting the keywords together and creating searchable terms.

Yeah, I was actually just reading that over in the forum that you gave me a link to in your previous post. I always figured that if I kept using similar words over and over again...like you say, zen t-shirts, zen tees, etc...that it would be considered kind of spammy and generic. But if it really works I'll give it a shot.

I only have one problem: individual sections are easy enough to find keywords for, but I've no idea how to go about writing the intro on my front page. How in the world does one summarize a shop that has geek humor, new age art, autism awareness, nature art, etc.??? There are just too many topics to list in the intro ( and short meta description for that matter) text.

Ok, I've re-worded the text at the top of this page, as well as the teaser text for the three "Meditate" designs. So far. I'd like to know if I'm on the right track though. I am using more keyword-rich phrases, but it just seems like it sounds so repetitious and generic. Will it really work though?

Zen Art section of my shop

yea, i think it's much better. however, look here: "Do you enjoy meditating? Whether you practice the art of Zen meditation or just use it to relieve stress, you will love this beautiful green spiritual art design that simply says 'Meditate' with an abstract lotus flower behind it."...great opportunity for keyword rich description and there's not much there that people will actually be searching for.
