This has come up a couple of times so I thought I'd make a little post about it.
This forum has a "Notify" button at the top of each forum and each thread. What does it mean? If I click it, will it "notify" someone about the thread, such as a board posting violation? NOPE! This is a common and understandable misconception and the reason why many people haven't even ventured to click the button for fear of what it might do. This little button is one of the best things you'll find on the forum. It will send you emails about the stuff you're interested in. To quote a line from PCU, "If you're nice to them, they bring you stuff?" Yup. This button brings you stuff - information. Case Study: For example, if you go to the " Post themed newsletters here thread, you'll see where people who receive newsletters from CP post them, since not everyone gets every newsletter. These are great pieces of information for you to use as a shopkeeper. I use them to make sure that any designs that would fit into that newsletter theme are properly tagged. For example, a recent newsletter used two tags for some of the designs. I had designs that would fit well into the theme, but had only used one of the tags. I quickly went to those three designs and popped in the other one in hopes of being in the searches once the marketplace refreshed, or at least on future newsletters. At the very least, I figure CP knows what people are searching for more than I do. So, if you're in that thread, click the "Notify" button up at the top. It will pull up a window allowing you to choose to receive updates daily, weekly or immediately when someone posts. Any time someone posts a new newsletter they've received, you'll be "in the know!" Many forum moderators use this feature to be notified when someone posts in their particular forums. You can always turn the notification for that thread or forum off or adjust it to another setting if you wish. Give it a try on forums or threads you frequent. (Just don't sign up for notification on the monthly "How are sales" thread or you'll be overwhelmed.) Happy foruming! This message has been edited.
