With the new premium shop search we now have a way of creating search links directly in our shops or from blogs, etc. This will help with SEO, as the url and the TITLE will have the search terms in them!

I'll use the teesed cafepress shop as an example.

My store address is http://www.cafepress.com/teesed

To create a search link, just add an "/s_" plus the search term on the end of that link. So, to make a search for "funny" it should be http://www.cafepress.com/teesed/s_funny

To do multiple terms, put a dash between the terms. So a search for "funny college" would be http://www.cafepress.com/teesed/s_funny-college

When you pull those up, you can narrow your search down by product "group" like CP has them organized. The options and their codes are:
T-Shirts & Clothing : t-shirts
Home & Gifts: gifts
Cards & Stationery: cards
Art & Posters: art
Signs & Fun Stuff:signs

To create a search link that is also narrowed by product group, add another underscore (_) after your search term and the code above.

So to create a search link for my funny college clothing, it would be http://www.cafepress.com/teesed/s_funny-college_t-shirts

Now, each of these is narrowed down further! If you click that you'll see subcategories for:
Men
Women
Juniors
Kids & Baby
Hats & Bags

I haven't gone through all of the options yet but it would be nice if we could collect them here in this thread. But as an example, to create a link just to my funny college men's clothing, I would replace that last "category" term with the subcategory term, http://www.cafepress.com/teesed/s_funny-college_mens-clothing

And there are further filters under those! and filters under those! and on and on ad infinitum!!!!

I'll be working on something where you can create your own link menu based on some search terms and copy the code directly into your html.

Very nice feature implementation, CP!

(I'm going to sticky this for a little while)

And there are breadcrumbs back up the line... this is going to rock for SEO

Jim, don't tell your wife, but I love you!

I was all excited about the search box and the ability to narrow by products, and now you have just rocked my world with this extra tip!

And I must say, this is gonna suck for tag spammers.

If they add the feature to their shop, it will drive customers crazy. Especially when a search for christmas and birthday brings up everything. And a search for grandpa brings up uncle. ROFL

I am so happy right now!

Hugs
Susan

OK, I'll start documenting the category "T-Shirts & Clothing" if someone else wants to take another. Let's do it this way(?):

t-shirts (T-Shirts & Clothing)
+mens-clothing (Men)
++mens-t-shirts (T-Shirts)
+++mens-short-sleeve-t-shirts (Short Sleeve)
++++white-t-shirts(White T-Shirts)
++++light-t-shirts (Light T-Shirts)
++++...
+++long-sleeve-t-shirts (Long Sleeve)
+womens-clothing(Women)
++...

understand? Each category starts its own line. Each subcategory has a +, and each subsequent subcategory has another +.

does that make sense?

Keep in mind that if you don't have a product with that term, that category won't appear in your subcategories so chose a generic search term (or your unique tag!) and if someone sees something missing, just post and we'll add it.

Those of us that build tools will be able to use this documentation to help build them more quickly.

<form id='searchForm' name='searchForm' action='http://www.qksrv.net/click-xxxxxxxx-10463747?SID=ecc&url=http://www.cafepress.com/cp/storesearchresults.aspx' method='post'><span id='searchBoxLabel'>Search Our Shop: </span><input type='text' id='searchterm' name='searchterm'/><input type='hidden' id='s' name='s' value='YOURSHOP' /><input id='submitSearch' type='submit' value='Go' /></form>

Now it works as... gets you there. But I'm not really sure if CJ is actually picking it up yet.

There you go gary. You have to select "disable html" and "disable graemlins" in the reply box for the html to show the code and not render - depending on the code.

Great stuff. I'm going to include the option for the affiliate link in the tool I (eventually) create.

OK, I take it back. I am missing stuff because I don't have a unique tag. (I know, I know)

I'll have to leave my contribution as the OP and a tool to follow. Someone else needs to throw the "T-Shirts and Clothing" category into the stone soup please.
