Announcing my two new Basic shops dedicated to keeping wild horses and burros FREE!
Help Wild Horses! Help Wild Burros! I also helped the Cloud Foundation get their Basic CP shops going, providing the graphics around a picture they provided of one of the stallions captured a few weeks ago in the Pryor Mountains of Montana. He is now on a large ranch with one of his mares and several of the other stallions and mares that were permanently removed. He was one of the lucky ones, with a group of people dedicated to helping him and his family. The thousands of nameless mustangs aren't so lucky - they need us to fight for them even more. Hi
Love your ROAM act horse against a flag. The Cloud stuff is a tad depressing |

Try looking up the Sand Wash and Sheldon roundups - they'll make you angry. The Pryor horses were treated with kid gloves in comparison to most other roundups, sadly, but they still weren't treated as well as the BLM likes people to think. Cloud himself is still quite lame. _____________________________ Help Save Wild Horses and Burros! http://www.cafepress.com/helpwildhorses http://www.cafepress.com/helpwildburros (I have a few others but they're in need of updating) |

In the movie Hidalgo the lead character Frank T. Hopkins races his wild mustang "Hidalgo" in the Arabian desert. His reason for racing is to save the wild mustangs from being rounded up and shot by the U.S. Cavalry in 1890.
At the end of this movie, there's information that made me realize this is a true story and "Hidalgo's" wild mustang descendants can still be seen roaming some parts of the American west. Im guessing this movie was to help awareness of these wild mustang's plight now, even though the information is at the very end and very small excerpt. Are these the same horses that you are referring to? |

When a movie says 'based on' or 'inspired by' it means that people and events depicted may or may not be true. Frank T. Hopkins and Hidalgo were real, but the race was not as depicted. In fact, most stories told by Hopkins say Hidalgo won by days. He also did not return to America, but was instead bought by Ras Rasmussen, the person who convinced Hopkins to participate, and stayed in Arabia. Hidalgo's relatives, including his mother whom Hopkins owned (Hidalgo was his horse from birth he didn't take him out of the wild), were indeed part of the named mustang herd at the end of the movie. But that was NOT the only herd by far, and at the time there were still hundreds of thousands on the range. Now, there are a little over 30,000 horses and 5,000 burros and the BLM aims to make it ZERO within a few years, and all the horses and burros in captivity to be non-producing, especially on these 'sanctuaries' they're proposing wherein the horses will be removed entirely from the West and sent to 'preserves' in the East and Midwest. That's what 'managed to extinction' means, and if it sounds a lot like what was done to Native Americans, Native Americans agree. _____________________________ Help Save Wild Horses and Burros! http://www.cafepress.com/helpwildhorses http://www.cafepress.com/helpwildburros (I have a few others but they're in need of updating) |

Thanks for all the info. I checked out the Cloud Foundation site briefly and plan to study it more.
Is the Cloud Foundation working for free roaming rights for all remaining American herds or in it's own region? Im wondering is this the central organization to find out about all the work being done for these animals across different U.S. regions? |

No, they're not just for the Pryor Mtn. horses, tho they're the ones best known and documented.
Go to the blog and read what's been happening the last three months, including the comments. You'll find a lot of links to other websites and articles. _____________________________ Help Save Wild Horses and Burros! http://www.cafepress.com/helpwildhorses http://www.cafepress.com/helpwildburros (I have a few others but they're in need of updating) |
