I'm pretty late with getting my 2010 calendars ready, so I went ahead and created the 12 month calendars but didn't tag the images yet. Is that ok? If I tag them now will CP still recognize them in mp searches? Some that were previously tagged should be changed/updated too. How does that affect things?

The MP Search results are based on tags. With no tags, they wont be found in an MP Search.

I know the mp needs tags. What I was asking was can I still add the tags to the images after they've been made into products.

For example, my 12 months calendars - I've made them already but have not yet tagged the images. If I tag the images now, are they still recognized or do I have to remake the calendars also.

CafePress is image based so you can add or change the tags any time. It will apply to any products past, present or future.

Thank you! That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. I used to always tag right after I uploaded the images.
