HELP! When I move the cursor to the workspace- after clicking on the TEXT TOOL I get the box that says that Paint Shop Pro has encountered a problem and is shutting down. So I cannot use the text tool at all. Has anyone encountered this problem and resolved it, or any suggestions?
Thank you.

I have been using PSP 9 for a while and have not encountered that. However, I would suggest you go the Jasc website and look for a PSP 9 'patch' and download it. There was a patch for PSP 9 which fixed various problems in the software program a while back. I just don't know if it included that type of fix ot not.

One more thing ... what amount of RAM do you have and what is the size of your hard drive? Instability could be caused by not enough memory for the program you are trying to run and certain parts of programs require more memory to run than others.

I posted on Corel's forum as well.
Corel no longer has tech support for PSP9.

Thanks for your help.

Depending on the size of the images you are doing and what other programs are installed a program could become unstable because of the lack of enough RAM. A couple years ago, I was using a laptop with a 40 GB hard drive and a GB of RAM. Long story short, while trying to print some large images, my whole hard drive crashed due to the lack of enough RAM. I am now running 2 GB of RAM with a 360GB hard drive.

You also, might want to consider biting the bullet and get the latest versin of PSP. I believe it is PSP Photo X2. You can get it at Target for about $80.

I hope you get some help from the Corel forums too! Good luck!

Thanks, Matisse! I had already thought of the bulleting biting, but was going to have to research.

I went to the Jasc/Corel website and the patches are still available. Go to Support, then Patches & Updates then select Full List of Updates. There you will find the patches for PSP 9. Check for any new system requirements before you decide to download.

I also checked out the PSP X2 version system requirements. It requires a minimum of 512 RAM with Windows XP. In my opinion, that is too large a program for you to run with 1GB RAM. Just make sure you check out the system requirements before you purchase any new program. You might also solicit some help on this subject at the Jasc/Corel forums as well.

Always get a second opinion on all of this stuff!

I've used PSP9 for about three years, and I've never encountered that problem.

Are you by any chance trying to use the same font every time? If so, try changing the font to a different one and see if that solves the problem. Would be too simple to be the problem, but the only time I've had that happened seemed to be a time the font was corrupted or some such thing and once I deleted that specific font it was ok.

Thank you all for your help. I bought Paint Shop Pro X2 and no more problem. Now the Corel Essentials has gone wacko, but still works at this writing. My husband is a software engineer and his theory is that it was planned obsolescence - since I originally purchased the two programs together as a suite. We'll see.
Thanks again.

I had that same problem when I tried to use PSP7 on my old computer that had only 1GB RAM. Actually, the text tool was one thing that didn't work, among several others which I can't completely recall. It was like having only part of a program to work with. With my present computer, it worked fine and I continue to use it.
