I'e posted this question at CPShop's forum, but can't get an answer there (which makes me worry about using the product by the way).
I've got my test site of CPshop finally up and was ready to go live with it when I realized there seems to be a lack of flexibility of creating unique META descriptions for products. All the descriptions for every product are the store description. Search engines are going to hate that.
Optimally it should be the description entered in Cafepress for the product.
Am I missing something that is built into the script? Seems like a basic function that must be there.
I just set up my first shop using CPshop this week so Im no pro but I think the trick would be to edit the meta in your template to contain a different tag then the store description.
That won't work. Even if you set up a template for product line pages, you can't get the description from Cafepress's product line page into CPShop's template. [producttext] is only for thumbnail pages.
"View Source" to see the Meta Description on any of your product line pages.
just real quick....the cpshop forums are very helpful, but there's not constant traffic there like there is here and on other forums...just a smaller group i guess. however, definitely browse those forums because there's a TON of great info there. If no one answers, just write a follow-up and hopefully someone will help.
with that being said, unfortunately I'm not really sure how to answer your question. I have my CPShop basically just pulling in all my section and product descriptions...not exactly sure what else you're looking for?>
You do have a problem on your store, I just checked. Bring up and product, like a shirt, for example. Then do a View Source in your browser. Every product you sell will show this for your META description:
The search engines are penalizing you for that. It's not good.
The previous message didn't take the META code, so here it is with some of the coding out:
meta name="description" content="Looking for a funny t shirt? St. Patrick's Day Tees? New Jersey t-shirts or Dirty Jersey tees? Vintage tee shirts? A novelty t shirt? A retro t-shirt? An anti-Bush tee shirt? Maybe an offensive t shirt? Irish Tee Shirts? How about a pop culture tee? Well you've come to the right place.
