I was just thinking that it seems as though CP has made an agreement with Ebony Magazine to sell their MJ covers.

That seems all well and good - except that I cannot believe Ebony owns the rights to print onto clothing and do merchandise with their images. Usually when someone agrees to be in a magazine - they sign a release allowing the redistribution of the interview and related photos. Often that may inlcude a poster within the magazine.

This usually in no way infers a right for a magazine to start selling commercial products with the material. Since MJ estate has not even been wound up I cannot see who could have given permission for this ?

The store selling the images is the Official Ebony-Jet store.
Presumably, the pix were taken by their staff photographers so the rights, in fact, belong to the publisher.
(I know that MJ appeared on more covers than the ones shown, but those pics might have been by freelancers or agency photographers, and thus, Johnson Publishing wouldn't have rights beyond "first usage".)

They call us "geeks". They call us "nerds".
We call ourselves "pop culture aficionados!"
