I use the Center Guides action pretty much every time I start a file in Photoshop. One click and you have the guides to snap to. Easy Peasy.

hit Ctrl X - for CUT, then Ctrl P for paste. it will land it in the very center. ---Mike Savad http://www.cafepress.com/suburbanscenes - Suburban Scenes by Mike Savad - Gifts for Barbers, Doctors, Dentists, Firemen, or anyone else that has a job or hobby. http://www.squidoo.com/lensmasters/msavad - My Squidoo Lenses |

Hmmm Must be a version thing. I have CS2. I tried and tried and I couldn't get Ctrl+X to do anything for a text object, nor for any of the shapes. The only thing that I could get that to work on was something on a rasterized layer.

that's because it's text. you'll need to rasterize it first.
