I use the Center Guides action pretty much every time I start a file in Photoshop. One click and you have the guides to snap to. Easy Peasy.

Neat! Never thot of an action either.
Still, nothing like it used to be when they used to snap by themselves. Like you, I used to set up for centers before I did anything. But it's such a PITA I usually forget then go nuts trying to center everything later.

hit Ctrl X - for CUT, then Ctrl P for paste. it will land it in the very center.

Hmmm Must be a version thing. I have CS2. I tried and tried and I couldn't get Ctrl+X to do anything for a text object, nor for any of the shapes. The only thing that I could get that to work on was something on a rasterized layer.

that's because it's text. you'll need to rasterize it first.
