I made a good oval, but it does not fit well into the cafepress oval sticker.

Did you try using the template?

I agree that the template is certainly the place to start.

Two ways of doing your oval to fit inside it. One is to eyeball it, which is what I assume you've done without success, though I'm not sure why. You are using the selection tool and drawing an oval, right?

If you want a bit more control, you can use the selection tool and draw your oval selection right on the oval shape of the template, then on another layer, do a stroke inside that oval, with a nice wide stroke.

Use the wand tool to select the inside of the stroked shape (which will give you an even oval selection smaller than the first). Then repeat as needed until your selection is exactly the size you want. Delete the layers you don't need.
