I am trying to upload text images to the shirts using photo shop (not even sure if I can do that here) but I am getting and error message everytime I try that. I have used the templates and done all the measurements and such! What am I doing wrong??? Is there a trick to this or am I just getting overly frustrated? Thank you for your help!

Becky

what format are you saving the images in?
.psd will not work. You can save as .png with a transparent background.

If you cannot see .png as an option, make sure your color mode is RGB and not cmyk.

I saved it as .psd I am guessing the size is the problem as the size is 16.5 mb each but I followed the templates for them. Why would the templates sizing be different from what is actually should be? And what should it actually be? Color mode is set to RGB. I have followed everything so far just stumped on why I am gettin that error and followed the templates thinking that the size is the problem.

You definitely need to be saving those as .png files for the final upload. Keep the .psd file as well so you can make changes to them in the future. I have a "working designs" folder, and a "completed designs" folder with subfolders. In the completed folder I have the files named as the finished psd, like "funkyfresh.psd" and then as the png with "funkyfresh.png". Stuff like that will help in the future as you get more and more designs. Smiler

Becky, what version of PS are you using? That will help someone walk you right to the png saving area.

Yeah, psd files won't work. Size doesn't really matter

I have a "1 dump when done" folder. I guess I got no class. Frowner

But the reason for the "1".... keeps it on top so I don't have to scroll down for a mile thru all the sub folders with different themes. I also have a "working" folder but only because there are designs there that can be manipulated/morphed easily into something else. Then there's the "master files" folder that are psd only and done. If I want to use one of those I open it and move it into another new file or add to an existing design and close it so as not to destroy it by mistake.

But yeah, png is best, jpg is second best. I always save my png's with the "copy" notation so I know it's done. It also tells me it's a flattened design that can't be manipulated easily.

You may need to wait until someone familiar with PS3 comes along. Or, search the PS3 help files for "save as png" and see if that pulls anything up. That's an old, old version and I'm not even sure if it has png as an option.

Couple things come to mind. If I'm not mistaken the older PS progs can't save as png. So you may be stuck with jpg.

On the other hand, if you are working in CMYK, you have to convert to RGB before you get the option to save as png. But again, with an old version you may not have the option at all.

(way back when, there was no such thing as png.)

P.S.

If you have the option to "save for web" you "may" have the png option there. Just ignore any warning about file size too big.

PS3 is too old to support png. The first one that did was 5.5. Check out the folders at the top of the graphics forum for free software alternatives. JPG works fine as long as you don't want to include dark apparel in your shop. Good looking apparel design means doing something to avoid looking like a piece of paper slapped on a shirt - and to do that you need transparency on dark apparel.

When you have your PSD file open in Photoshop, you should click File -> Save As.

In the dialog box, there is a FORMAT option, right below the area to type in the file name. Click the dropdown box and you should see more than a dozen options. You are looking for PNG.

I googled "Photoshop 3 save PNG" and it should be an option. Found websites with screenshots that tell you how to get a transparent background, save as PNG, etc. Give it a try if it still isn't working for you.
