Hello. I have photoshop elements 7. I am trying to cut a shape out of a picture and have the transparancy show through. So when I put the design on the shirt , the shape I cut out of the image will show through as the shirt material. Thanks
There are some great tutorials complete with images / video to show you that can be found with a Google search. They will beat anything anyone can type out here. Try search like remove background from photo Photoshop In most cases instructions for Photoshop will work with Elements (not sure that the "extract" filter exists in Elements, but most techniques do).
You can optionally download the extract filter if you haven't found alternate tools - via the Adobe website. Or, depending on the goodies CD you may have it on that, too.
In the meantime - try its core feature such as Refine Edge to see if that doesn't help.
Ok I have tried to google this, but I can't find it. Can someone just please tell me how to do this. I have an image on a transparent layer and I want to cut a shape out of the middle and have the transpancy show through where I cut the shape from. So when the shirt is printed the center of the image, where the cut out has been done, it will be the shirt material that you see, not ink. Thanks
Yeah, blip. A LOT of features have been removed and can be downloaded but they no longer come with it.
As far as elements, it seems not too many use it here. But in photoshop (there are a bazillion ways) the way I would do a simple cut would be to put the shape you want to cut on another layer, select the shape, then highlight the layer you want to cut it from and hit delete.
Create a new transparent layer above your image layer. On that layer, place and position your shape, and select it with the magic wand. In the layers palette, click on your image layer, then use the delete key on your keyboard to delete the selected area. Finally, in the layers palette, drag your "shape" layer into the trashcan. Don't forget to merge the visible layers before you save for uploading.
Possibly, we need to back up a little. Are you able to draw the shape you want? Is the only question how to actually cut it out, or are also looking for help generating the shape?
Sherry's advice is probably the simplest way to do it. Did it make sense to you?
