on their CP shop. I did not sign up for the affiliate program with CJ! I asked them to take my shirts off thier CP shop and it's still on there. They said they could do that because I was in the marketplace. I told him I was NOT interested in affiliate marketing. Just because I'm in the marketplace does not mean you can snag my shirts right? I clicked the CP box that says put me in the marketplace.

Now this shop owner has my stuff up but the link goes back to my shop. What does that mean? He got the link wrong? He still gets paid if one of my shirts is sold?

Someone help me out here. I e-mailed Cp two days ago and have not heard anything back.

Any design that is in the marketplace may be affiliated

The only way for you to opt out is to opt out of the marketplace which in turn opts you out of being affiliated

You should want affiliates to market your products because they bring you sales you may not have otherwise gotten

Shopkeepers don't need to sign up on CJ, only affiliates do.

Participating in the marketplace is what enables affiliates to help sell your stuff. If you don't want help marketing your designs, you need to uncheck that box and withdraw from the marketplace.

Actually, if it is on their shop on Cafepress linking to your shop they wont get a dime. The affiliate program no longer works within shops on CafePress, it only works on their own domains off of CafePress. So if thats the case, they can't get commission from the stuff unless they have come up with a way to do it - which would violate the affiliate program terms.

However, whether or not this particular shop is earning commissions, other affiliates have access to market your designs as long as you remain in the marketplace.

Just curious. Why do you not want others helping to sell your products? The affiliate program lets you not only benefit from your own traffic but gain the traffic of any affiliate's sites who decide to link to your stuff as well.

Ok, since I am not signed up with CJ they only way I would get money from a sale is if that other persons site fowards to my shop right. My shirts are on his site and when you click on it it goes to my site. Is that because I'm not signed up with CJ? Is the other person going to make money on the shirt sale at my site. If that's true, all he is getting is just a display of my shirt which makes no sense to me why he would have my shirt in his shop directly linking to me. Heck, I have no problem letting him promote me. I just wanted to stay out of the affliate deal. But if all they can do with my shirts is display them and have it linked back to my shop great for me right?

Cafepress pays you for the sale minus the commission to the affiliate

You do not have to be signed up with CJ to get paid on your sales only if you tried to sell other people's products

So, if I understand this. CP will pay me minus his
his cut. How much am I losing in commisions? Is it a percentage? I guess I'm not complaining if they drove the sale to my shop and i made a few bucks with their help.

The reality is, when I first saw it in his shop I got very protective my my work etc.

Thank you all for helping me understand this situation.

cville, I sent you a PM regarding the one post in the thread I removed. As explained there and in my and Susan's posts here, CJ has nothing to do with shopkeepers. Shopkeepers don't have to do anything on CJ at all, even if you want your stuff available to affiliates you don't have to do anything at CJ. CJ is ONLY for people who wish to sell shopkeeper designs on their websites.

CafePress always pays you your markup on your sales. The ONLY way an affiliate can make a commission on your products is if you have opted into the marketplace. If your products are in the marketplace, they are available for affiliates to sell for a commission.

Keep in mind, the affiliate making the sale for you is likely (not always but likely) to be a sale you would not have received otherwise. So instead of losing 20% of your markup, you are actually gaining 80% of a sale you most likely would not have received otherwise.

At any rate, if you DON'T want affiliates helping you sell your items, you need to uncheck the box that has your items in the marketplace. That is the ONLY way that your stuff isn't available for affiliates to help you sell. Again, to reiterate, as a shopkeeper CJ has NOTHING to do with you. It is only for people selling products made by others.

Thank you Shawn, I think that answers it for me. You are right, I'd rather make 80% for sure than nothing! I'm actually feel good about someone liking my shirt to add it. If that is the case, where in the world can I contact affliliates to look at my shirts to add. Is there some hot spot to contact the biggest selling Cp shops so they might add some of mine to thier mix?

Again, its not cp shops that are selling your stuff as an affiliate. The affiliate program no longer works that way. In fact, affiliate links to cafepress designs within a shop are against the affiliate program rules. If there is a shop doing this with your designs, report it to the affiliate team at the email address affiliates@cafepress.com. That way they can look into it and talk with the affiliate.

As for contacting affiliates, the only way to make affiliates aware of your shop and designs is to post in the announce/rate affiliate-ready shops forum. Each shop is permitted one announcement where the shopkeeper can highlight the topics their shop caters too. Also keep an eye on the affiliates looking for shops forum where affiliates will post threads when they are looking for certain types of designs.

Due to the same privacy rights extended to shopkeepers where CafePress wont share your information, lists of affiliates aren't available. But there are those two forums here created specifically for shopkeeper to affiliate and affiliate to shopkeeper communications.

Hope that helps. Smiler

You can watch the forums to look for shopkeepers that are looking for certain types of affiliates

But generally affiliates pick what they want from the marketplace

Big time affiliates don't normally check the forums they simply direct people to marketplace

There is only one big affiliate that I know of that lurks the forums occasionally and he targets very specific things

As a shopkeeper the best way to get affiliates to notice your designs is to create quality designs and lots of them that end up in the marketplace

I just checked out your shop...you will probably not have alot of people affiliating with you since you put your website in the description of your products

So you must decide if you want affiliates or not

If you do... you should kind of revamp those descriptions to eliminate your web address

I wish I could complain about having my designs on other websites as an affiliate by someone!
I can't even complain if I wanted to because no one has ever affiliated any of my designs from any of my 4 premium shops to their websites.
I sure could use someone to pick up my designs as some extra money would be nice. Yay Yay
I have pretty good sales figures but sure would love the affiliates to help out!

Hey Affiliates I'm in the marketplace.
Please PM me if interested in checking my sites out. I have over 2600 designs.
Have a GREAT Day!
