I understand affiliates dislike small markup amounts such as $1.
Can gentle affiliates recommend the best or better markup choices: - Relative -- what percentages? - Tiered -- low, medium, high, or premium? - Exact -- what dollar amounts?
Also, are there categories of products or designs that lend themselves to particular markup strategies?
Beyond the $1 are there markup choices that simply don't fly; does "at least $5" mean $5 for a magnet is reasonable?
I've been at this a long time and constantly see the newbie shop keeper marking up little amounts because they 1. feel bad "ripping off" customers, 2. simply don't know any better.
The market you sell in depicts the prices you can sell at. Generally a t-shirt can be marked up $6-$8 - even more when the demand is high and you are in a niche / low competition market.
Obviously you'll want to vary your markups across product groups, stickers / buttons will need a lower markup than t-shirts to ensure they still sell.
As a shop keeper I price my products to keep them competitive and to still earn a good income. I also try to keep myself competitive when my prices are converted into GBP.
Affiliates will dislike small markups because they know also that the products they are selling could sell for more.. they also want a higher return. They could be advertising and spending money to generate you sales.. so small markups would put them in the red.
Personally I apply exact markups - different markups for different product groups.
