I joined the old CP affiliate program primarily so that anyone who came to my shop and then went on to another CP shop would carry my cookie. I made links to my own shops and designs on my web site and blog with my PID for the same reason. I never made much on affilate sales - but every little bit helps.

Now I am just getting around to trying to figure out the new system. It sounds like it would be against the rules for me to leave my old links to my own stuff as they are - right? And I don't understand how to do most of this so it is a big struggle for me. So here is my question:

1) Does it still work that anyone who comes to your CP shop, then goes on to buy from other CP shops automatically gives you an affilate commission IF you have joined CJ and enabled redirection of your existing links? (or, is it only for bringing people in via routes other than your own shop?)

2) Are all my existing links illegal under the new system? I think I only have one or two linking to the marketplace, all the rest link to my own shops and products.

I'm not sure I understand this well enough to even ask the questions - thanks in advance for any advice!
Amy

No, it no longer auto-cookies visitors

Yes and no..
1 - The old links in your shop will simply redirect to where you linked to with no commission and are fine.
2 - Changing the links in your shop to the new CJ links is "illegal".
3 - The old links in your old websites off CP are ok as long as you enable the redirect to tell CP that your account is linked to your CJ account. Enabling the redirect will also allow your links to your shop to be "legal".

I didn't join CJ, do I need to change my links by removing the PID's?

It's for bringing in people through other routes. Links from shops do not get credit, and Commission Junction-style links aren't even allowed in shops. But, if you link to your shop from a blog or other site, be sure to use the affiliate link (either type) to get to your shop, then those other links will be getting you credit.

I "think" it's not illegal to have the "?pid=" links inside of shops as they don't get credit, but someone else may know for sure.

No you don't need to, but you might want to. You can't get any credit and the links take people away from your store and they make it just a teeny bit less attractive to affiliates.

Thanks Diane, I think I'll remove them.
