I have an alternative energy news site and I would like to make some money on selling CP items, but don't want to spend the time to create my own products. What is the fastest/easiest way for me to start generating money from affiliate sales of products in the alternative energy/green alternatives field?
Spending money on a solution is not a problem either, if there is some automated 3rd party approach.
Check out the tools in the third party affiliate tools forum. There are a lot of cool and easy to use tools there to help you incorporate cafepress products into your website.
For example, Teesed wrote a tool called CafeWishAds.. What it does is allow you to enter your affiliate information and search terms. It then creates an AdSense-like banner containing CafePress products which meet your search criteria. The product links are created already containing your affiliate information.
This is just one of many tools available from third party developers for the affiliate program. I'm sure you will find one or some that fit your needs.
