Yeah, it goes like this.. Hey I made a sale! Hey I made an affiliate sale. Hey...I just had retail relations with myself... Confused

But the term "double dipping" is also used by shopkeepers when we sell two items in one sale, like "triple dipper" and the elusive "quadruple dipper!" so it can be confusing.

The problem with calling this "double dipping" is that it's not always doing that.

Some of the mistakes I'm getting is that I'm losing part of my commission & part of my volume bonus... BUT I'm not receiving an affiliate commission. So, the part that makes sure we don't get an affiliate commission on our own stuff is working correctly... the part that let's us keep credit for our own stuff isn't working.

It doesn't make sense that it is happening both ways. Mine seems to flip-flop.

I hope we can figure it out soon.

Well, I've continued to get these double-dipping anomalies throughout Dec. and it's annoying to say the least. I've sent a number of emails to CP's affiliate folks w/ no responses at all. It is getting to be a royal chore to keep track each day of each mis-recorded sale, and it is definitely cutting into the bonus tier now that I'm at 22% this month. Average has been 3 or 4 a day and that's crazy. All are from 4thclick sites. Is anyone else still having problems?

Please consider affiliating me... thanks!

I also get the odd problem, one happening the other day. It is frustrating when you're trying hard not to break the rules and when you're also trying hard to make sales to go toward your volume bonus!

Increasingly frustrated,

Kip

I just signed up with CJ about a month ago but haven't even had time to set up any affiliates on my site yet or anything. And now it says I have affiliate sales in my shop but I don't have any affiliates. My mom purchased some stuff from my shop and used one of my random email addresses (which I have never used for CafePress) and the sales came up on my shop as an affiliate sale! How wierd. And I'm not getting any $$ from my CJ account but it says I made affiliate sales. Something is really screwy. I don't want to lose out on potential volume bonus because of some computer error. Anyone?

Most likely, since you have a shop...your Mom has browsed other shops, and somewhere picked up an affiliate cookie from someone else. Then made the purchase.

Your Commission Junction account and your CafePress account are completely unrelated.

There are sales you make of other people's products. You will never see those in your CafePress account, only on Commission Junction.
To see them is kind of convoluted. When you log in click on "Run Reports". Then you will see Transaction Reports. Under Pending Commissions you should see an amount under New. Click that and you will get a new commissions summary. Click on the dollar figure. You will get a list of the individual transactions for that day. At the very end of the row is a "details" link. Click on that link. You will get a list of individual items - the SKU is the product number. Copy that and plop it into the search bar of the CafePress marketplace and it will pull up the product. The product should not be one of yours. If it is, then and only then, have you "double-dipped."

Then there are the sales where other people sell your products. That has nothing to do with whether you have a CJ account. The person selling your product needs a CJ account but they might not have picked your product to sell. They might a totally unrelated link to a CP product and the person then went and bought something from you. When a CJ link is clicked it installs a cookie and for the next 30 days, or until it is over written, any purchase made will get credited to the affiliate. So if you are in the marketplace you have affiliates. Everyone whose products appear in the marketplace has affiliates. The only way to not have an affiliate is to opt out and choose to do all your own advertising etc. If you see something about an affiliate sale in your CafePress account that is your product and has nothing at all to do with your Commission Junction account.

The scenario with your mother's purchase coming in as an affiliate sale would have happened regardless of your involvement with CJ - as noted your Mom probably picked up an affiliate cookie someplace. The affiliate program tries to be fair to all parties, but it isn't perfect.
