While searching and searching, etc., I cannot find out what is wrong. I am using my PID number, I have triple checked.

But go to: http://www.allbrassradio.com/shirts.htm

And press any picture. The link will not redirect. Any help would be appreciated.

Follow these instructions:

http://www.cafepress.com/cp/info/affiliate/bestpractices

Where it says PID - you need to actually put your pid there. Where it says 10463747 - leave it there. That's CafePress' number.

Thanks Adam, got it all squared away. It is a bit confusing though. The upper examples say to leave in the CafePress number, but the lower ones do not. Oh well, it works now.

Thanks and have a happy New Year.

I have had this same problem. Just signed up today and trying to get some links for my webpages.

I copied the code they gave me and put in my PID from CJ and the shop I wanted to link to and all it did time after time was take me back to the best practices affiliate page.

I got the html code for a product at CJ and posted that on my webpage and it went right to the product when I clicked buy.

I know I have put the right PID that I use with another CJ affiliate program and still nothing.

I and my husband have been diddling with this for an hour and nothing.

thanks for any input as to why this is happening.

Since you didn't provide an example of what you are doing the first step is to provide this:

It has to look something like this:
http://www.qksrv.net/click- YourPID-10463747?url=http://www.cafepress.com/buy/cornet/-/pv_design_prod/p_2530057.146830930/pNo_146830930/id_21544546/fpt_fHBa__DB_________bRH_P___e/opt_/c_667/pg_1

Any CafePress URL can come after the URL=

The trick, I found, is you have to keep the PID-10463747? before url=

I think the instructions are unclear on this. If you put your PID in the link above you would come to a cornet player's t-shirt I am selling.

Maybe this will help from a guy who was also previously quite confused.

Somhow, this bugs me. You see, the old saying is that the best teacher is experience. But really, the best teacher is a wise person. If you experiment to frustration, what have your learned? Frustration.

It is ALWAYS better in my mind to ask wise people. Bulletin Boards are setup so wise people can be asked questions and the new person helped. Telling someone to experiment is tantamount to saying: I know, but I think you should figure it out. Kind of cavalier if you ask me.

Although your link:
http://www.tutortanith.com/affiliatelinking2.htm

Is 100 times (at least) better than the original Cafepress instructions. For that, I applaud you.

I have to defend Tanith on this one.

I have seen her for the past two years (and she has been around here much longer than that) answer the same questions over and over and over again.

Most of the questions asked in the forums are easily found in the stickied sections in each forum section.

And most people ask questions before even trying to find the answer.

You have to understand we all volunteer our time to help others, when we really should be working on our own projects.

We do this because we want to give back. But sometimes honestly it gets really tiring.

I know so many who have abandoned the forums completely and will not help anyone anymore.

Giving the quick easy answers does not always help people, sometimes it even hurts them. In order to be successful at Cafepress or any similar type internet business, it's often the things you learn on your own that make you a better shopkeeper.

Hugs
Susan

Fair enough. Please block my posts so that I don't bug you any more. I'm delighted to help people who have given it a good try and need a hand. I'm not so delighted with those who think that their time is more valuable than mine. There are FAQs, error messages, prompts, and explanations that go unread because a person would rather take someone else's time than spend their own. Every minute that I spend here is a minute I am not spending designing, updating, maintaining etc my own business. I happen to enjoy helping people. For me there is no question that is stupid if the person has given it an honest try at figuring it out. But far too often a question is asked that could be easily resolved if the person simply TRIED to do the thing they are asking about. If they TRY and fail - no problem. But failure to try - as mentioned it chases people like me away. Come to think of it my irritability level is rising - maybe I should disappear for a while.

Block you. Now that is again a bit harsh. My goodness, I simply said that asking a wise person (like you) is much better than hours of frustration.

I thought forums where to help people, not make them mad, frustrated etc. We are helping CafePress, not the other way around. I have two CJ accounts. I make, oh $25 a year. Big deal.

Some of the instructions on "Best Practices" were not very clear. I spent hours and hours in frustration. I am a EXCELLENT programmer.

So if I couldn't figure it out, the instructions are not that great. You stuff was. But to suggest hours of frustration seems silly to me.

You don't have to listen to me. Whom am I? Just a small person in the world of CafePress or Commission Junction.

I sent an email, and with the help of the people on this board, I figured it out before support came back to work.

But promoting frustration seems silly. Now I have repeated myself.

Take care,

Dr. Jim

Susan, you're such a sweet girl. I've liked your style since our very first exchange. You have a way of being direct without being insolent or condescending and I really appreciate that about you, because it's a rare quality anymore. [just wanted to let you know that]
THAT having been said...
As a mother to 6 children who not only owns and operates 2 "big dog" CP shops but also owns a body shop with her husband while maintaining a house and running errands up the wahZOO, I can say without a doubt...if I had the time to sit and fiddlefart away on my paint shop or sift through months of old posts looking for answers I would.
SOMETIMES people come here and ask questions because they need help but don't have the time to sift through endless posts or experiment for hours in their paint programs.
When people come here and they are met with impatience and short/rude replies...guess what folks...they don't come back.
THEN how helpful is the "help" forum?
As easy as it is for someone to "just block you", it should be JUST as easy to skip past a question if you don't feel like answering it for the millionth time.

Dr. Jim....I wish I could help you, but I'm lost regarding the affiliate program. I've got a CJ account but have done absolutely NOTHING with it since I don't even know the basics. AND YES...I HAVE read the FAQ's and help topics....they did nothing for me because unfortunately I have a hard time learning without hands-on help with stuff like html and link redirecting.
Best of luck, Dr. Jim

Sincerely,

Deek

Ok gang, since this is going offtopic and starting to edge towards some guidelines violations, I'm going to close the topic.

If anyone is having problems getting their links to work, there are two excellent resources quoted above which should be referenced. In addition to here, as mentioned, the links quoted above are also in the sticky post at the top of the forum.

Thanks and best of luck with your affiliate marketing efforts.
